Rank S
First you must have a level 10 Demon-at-Arms and Buffalogre. Head to the Scout Post and talk to the person who performs the syntheses. Select the two monsters (one monster must be +, the other -) and you’ll be able to choose the Rank S monster and synthesize it.
Rank X Monster
Use the Rank S strategy (see above) to get a Malroth. Next, get a Tortured Soul and a King Slime and synthesize them together to get a Wight King. Finally, synthesize them together to get a Zoma -- the rank X monster.

Monster Ranks
All monsters are ranked as follows, from worst to best: F, E, D, C, B, A, S, X. When you scout for monsters, the rank is always a single letter. However, when you synthesize monsters, the ranks are combined. F rank = 1 rank point, E rank = 11 rank points, and so on. Combining two F rank monsters would equal F +2 rank. When the rank gets to * +10, it goes to the next rank. Here are the point values for each rank:
F = 1 rp
E = 11 rp
D = 21 rp
C = 31 rp
B = 41 rp
A = 51 rp
S = 61 rp
X = 71 rp
Note: Monsters also have species ranks for overall species strength, which is displayed in the monster logbook and cannot be changed.
